Scientific Indexing Services
Fast and Thorough Scientific Indexing
We are the UK’s leading academic book indexing company. Our scientific book indexing service is peerless in its quality and remarkable with regard to turnaround time. Our subject-specific indexers can work to the most exacting briefs and deadlines at pre-proof or proof stage. We have indexed for all of the major academic publishers across all fields in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, comfortably overdelivering within very narrow time windows. Our indexing clients return time and again thanks to the superlative quality, speed, and rigour of our service. We have produced indexes for scientific researchers globally, excelling under pressure to ensure publication deadlines are always met with time to spare. Our scientific indexes start from £15 per 1,000 indexable words.
To date, we have created indexes for publishers including Bloomsbury, Brill, Berghahn Books, De Gruyter, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, MIT Press, Harvard University Press, Routledge, Springer, Peeters, Peter Lang, Palgrave Macmillan, and Wiley-Blackwell.
How We Work
Your subject-specific indexer will pore through your manuscript, collating all key words (and, where relevant, names and sources), creating an informative—and user-friendly—inventory of terms. Being a PhD-educated subject expert in their own right, your specially-selected index editor will already be cognizant of terms that cannot be left out of your index. Your index editor can perform the task of indexing at pre-proof or proof stage, the latter of which will involve pagination. We are also happy to liaise directly with your publisher at any point, to ensure that our indexing fits seamlessly into your book’s production schedule.
We can create embedded indexes using XML tags, or back-of-the-book indexes using PDF proofs.
For clients who want an insight into our indexing process, our sister brand Lex Academic has created a handy and concise blog article (which may also encourage you to do your own indexing!):

We can also index in French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
We craft dedicated indexes for scientific textbooks and monographs. Indexes can be short and sweet or utterly exhaustive. We can provide all-inclusive indexes, as well as individual indexes of Latin names topics and names. Our indexes can also include page references for boxes, figures, and tables.
Can we help with anything else?
Ensure your entire manuscript is submission-ready with our extraordinary scientific Proofreading, Copy-Editing, and Substantive Editing. Our impeccable author services include correcting all typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors. Where desired, we can make stylistic and substantive changes to your work that promise a powerful first impression with major publishers. Our authors have published with all of the top-tier publishing houses, including Bloomsbury, Brill, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Penguin, Peter Lang, Princeton University Press, and Routledge.

“I’m grateful for the attention to detail and professionalism that editors at Lex Academic showed in copyediting and indexing our edited volume. The book had 22 chapters along with an index, and we wanted the multi-authored text to be doubly reviewed for clarity and consistency. This was achieved with the meticulous help of Lex Academic within an agreed-upon timeframe and the final publication benefited tremendously.”
